Cancer Screening

In Northern Ireland there are three Cancer screening programmes; Breast screening, Bowel Cancer Screening and Cervical Cancer screening.  Cancer Screening programmes aim to detect cancer, or risk of cancer, at an early stage, when treatment is more likely to be effective.

The Cancer Screening team within the Public Health Agency is responsible for supporting the commissioning and QA of the breast, cervical and bowel cancer screening programmes.

Each screening programme is led by a Consultant in Public Health Medicine. Support staff within the Screening team include programme managers, information officers and administrative staff. Each cancer screening programme is supported by a structure of professional leads across a range of key disciplines.
